SLCR process in aviation
The initiative for the development of the SLCR process was born by the aviation industry. The depainting of aircraft (AC) and its components is an established constituent in the regular preventive maintenance programs. The preparation of the more and more used composite material parts is a necessary prerequisite for the further processing like painting and bonding of components.
For the aviation industry SLCR especially offers two main applications:
SLCR process for surface activation in the product line
of structure parts made of composite material:
- CFRP
- GFRP
- removal of release agent residuals and contaminations
- achievement of a good paint adhesion
- preparation of bonding
SLCR process for unrestricted depainting of aircraft components especially composite material:
- CFRP
- GFRP
- AFRP
- selective (only till primer)
- complete (till substrate)
The advantages of the process:
- Due to the modular layout of the SLCR laser systems the process is very flexible. The SLCR laser offers many advantages in surface treatment, particularly in activating and paint stripping. Due to its dust-free surface preparation, reduced cycle times (compared to manual sanding), improvement in quality, process control and - not to forget - the operator safety with minimal maintenance the SLCR laser represents an irresistible alternative to other methods.
- In comparison to conventional applications the SLCR process eliminates the necessity for chemical surface preparation or follow-up treatment. Thus it not only protects the environment but also reduces waste disposal costs drastically.
